The Domain and Realms National Site

"There's magick in believing..."

Welcome to the Realm of

Plainitia

Stretching across the center of Turtle Island, Plainitia is the twelfth Realm of the Domain: encompassing the vastness of the Great Plains. While there seems to be nothing to the Realm beyond the seemingly endless plains and prairies, this is a Realm that should not be mistaken.

The current ruler is Queen Dame Katherine RedWolf Rose DarkFyre, who watches over the Realm now from her Royal Court.

Divided into four Provinces, Plainitia is more than just the plains that are its namesake. It is a place of gateways and ancient civilizations, birthplace of great roads and trails, and the receptacle of endless dreams.

Great cities now stand in the breadbasket of the Realms: like islands in a vast sea of plains and farmland. And where - almost ironically - the remnants of a once-great and ancient forest  serves now as the Realm's current seat of guardianship and power.

Seven divisions to symbolize the 7 places: North, South, East, West, Above, Below, and Center. In the very center a yin-yang to symbolize the Realm and what its First Rulers believe in: Harmony.

The elements are represented, as the First Rulers regarded the elements as their kin:

Center left side - the letter "F" for fire.

Center right side - the letter "W" for water.

Center top - the letter "A" for air.

Center bottom - the letter "E" for earth.

Top left quadrant has the constellation Orion to symbolize the First Rulers' belief in the majesty of the stars.

Bottom left quadrant is the Zodiac symbol for Lord Rick.

Bottom right quadrant is the Zodiac symbol for Lady Summer.

Top right quadrant is left empty, representing the Unknown.

Also looking at the flag as a whole there is a small message. The letters form the words "A FEW," which - to Lady Summer and Lord Rick - meant, a few people can begin this journey, but many will join and be with us always.

Places of Interest, Power, and Enchantment

Cahokia

Possibly the capital of the ancient Mississippian Culture, Cahokia is the site of a pre-Columbian Native American city - existing c. 1050–1350 CE - directly across the Mississippi River from modern St. Louis, Missouri.

This historic park lies in south-western Illinois between East St. Louis and Collinsville. The park covers 2,200 acres - or about 3.5 square miles - and contains about 80 mounds, but the ancient city was much larger. At its apex around 1100 CE, the city covered about 6 square miles and included about 120 manmade earthen mounds in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and functions. At the apex of its population, Cahokia may have briefly exceeded contemporaneous London, which at that time was approximately 14,000–18,000.

Cahokia was the largest and most influential urban settlement of the Mississippian culture, which developed advanced societies across much of what is now the central and southeastern United States, beginning more than 1,000 years before European contact. Today, the Cahokia Mounds are considered to be the largest and most complex archaeological site north of the great pre-Columbian cities in Mexico.

Rock City

Rock City is a park located on hillsides overlooking the Solomon River in Ottawa County, Kansas. It is 3.6 miles south of Minneapolis, Kansas and just over 0.5 mile west of Kansas highway K-106 and the Minneapolis City County Airport on Ivy Road.

In a patch of prairie about 500 meters long and 40 meters wide, Rock City contains three clusters of large spherical boulders. These three clusters contain a total of 200 spherical boulders. It has been designated as a National Natural Landmark.

The large spherical boulders in Rock City are giant calcite-cemented concretions, typically called "cannonball concretions" because of their shape. They range in diameter from 3 to 6 meters with the average diameter being 3.6 meters. These concretions lie 2 to 8 meters apart. Similar giant calcite-cemented concretions have also been found in a quartzite quarry within Lincoln County and in exposures of the similar age sandstones in Utah and Wyoming.

These boulders consist of well-sorted, medium-grained sandstone, which is tightly cemented by calcite. The sandstone consists of more than 95 percent quartz sand. About 20 percent of the original sandstone, mostly feldspar grains, has been replaced by the calcite. Pyrite, which is now oxidized to goethite, occurs within the calcite cement of these concretions as microscopic crystals and very small, knobby concretions. The pyrite concretions typically are about 30 cm in diameter. Also, included within these calcite concretions are smaller calcite concretions, which have been engulfed by the growth of the larger concretions.

Agate Fossil Beds

Situated along the Niobrara River, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is a U.S. National Monument near Harrison, Nebraska. The main features of the monument are the fossils found on Carnegie Hill and University Hill.

The site is best known for a large number of well-preserved Miocene fossils, many of which were found at dig sites on Carnegie and University Hills. Fossils from the Harrison Formation and Anderson Ranch Formation, which date to the Arikareean in the North American land mammal classification, about 20 to 16.3 million years ago, are among some of the best specimens of Miocene mammals.

Originally the Agate Springs Ranch, a working cattle ranch, was owned by Capt. James Cook. The monument's museum collection also contains more than 500 artifacts from the Cook Collection of Plains Indians artifacts.
